Born second son of seven children in Geochang, Gyeongnam, Korea, during Japanese occupation that lasted until 1945.

1918

 

Begins learning at local traditional private house, and continues until 1920.

1920

 

Enters modern elementary school.

1924

 

Drops out of school due to economic difficulty at grade 5.

1926

 

Goes to Japan, to work at factories and mines until 1928.

1928

 

Returns to Korea and marries Lee, Kyoung-Soon on Dec.11.

1929

Sep.

Starts brewery business.

Jun. 21

Mrs. Paik starts to attend Nongsan Church.

 

Jul. 4

Starts to attend the church out of terror of the last days and judgment.

 

Jul. 14

Swayed by an Adventist Church member to attend the church two weeks; Elder Hwang of the Nongsan Church restores the Paiks to the presbyterian church.

1937

Baptized.

1938

Jan. 18

Jinju Bible School, first year finished.

 

Oct. 19

Called by voice from heaven during fasting prayer concerning Japanese shrine worship on Mt. Peak of  Fire.

Ministry in Geochang

1939

 

A prayer house at hometown of Gaemyoung started with 8 adults.

1944

Jan.

All 43 members of Gaemyoung Church afflicted with unknown epidemic and none lost.

 

Jan.

Church building confiscated, daytime service conducted until May.

 

Jun. 26

Service held at a church member's house and continued until Liberation.

1945

Apr.

Revealed of end of War, and the last shrine worship tribulation overcome.

 

Aug. 15

End of WW II, gives public sermon on a celebrating occasion 5 days later.

 

Aug. 21

Church building returned.

1946

Mar. 24

Dawn prayer meeting started.

 

Apr. 3

Dawn prayer service officially started.

1948

Retreat gathering at Gajo Church, emphasis shifted on words rather than healing power; evangelistship granted.

Retreat gathering at Bongsan Church, 400 people from 17 churches experience the works as of the apostolic churches.

National flag worship controversy erupts.

1950

Enters Korea Presbyterian Church Seminary.

General Council Era

First year in an independent church system, simplifying church administration as grace-oriented as in apostolic church days; Christmas activities simplified.

Ordained pastor.

1961

 

Sunday school integrated from the grades system, enabling a class to accommodate pupils of any grade; Lord's day evening service moves to afternoon; mission campaign after Christmas lunch becomes traditional.

Renovation of church buildings.

Integrated Sunday school system officially instituted.

First General Council.

1967

Aug.

Geochang Retreat Camp held at Dopyong and fixed thereafter.

1968

 

Condemned heretical by Gyeongbook Presbytery.

Daegu Retreat Camp held at present site and fixed thereafter.

1970

Aug. 3

Second General Council; memberships of Sunday school and adult congregation reach 1,000 respectively; church buildings renovated.

General Council Administrative Board formed.

Described heretical in a book by Kim, Eu-Hwan.

1976

General Council Seminary founded.

1979

Feb. 5

Sunday school exposed to public by a newspaper.

1982

Seobu Church Editorial Office started to become Paik Pastoral Institute later; afflicted with disease several months.

1987

Aug. 15

Seo, Young-June dies.

 

Nov.

Kim, Chul-Soo withdraws from the General Council maintaining Christianity is democratic.

1989

Jan. 3

Five Articles of Reformation submitted by Paik, Young-Ik; Eight Articles of Reformation submitted and adopted.

Nineteenth General Council.

 

Aug. 27

Murdered on the pulpit during dawn service.
